1. Laser brand
• Question: Which brand is the EI-YAG laser?
• Answer: The laser for this PN is from Litron. Other brands, including Quantel and Ekspla, can also be integrated. Litron suits a wide range of applications and labs.
2. Optical realignment
• Question: On the old LP920, the optical path had to be realigned by hand each time the laser wavelength changed. Will the LP980 with the EI-YAG laser be the same?
• Answer: Not necessarily. It depends on the space around the system. With enough space, a separate optical path can be set up for each harmonic.
3. Power supply
• Question: Does the full system, with laser and accessories, run on a normal plug, or does it need special power such as three-phase?
• Answer: Normal power. No special supply is needed.
4. Sample holder and lid
• Question: The LP980 has two sample holder positions but only one lid. Is changing the holder difficult? Will a large sample, which needs the Lid Riser, limit the measurement?
• Answer: No, it is straightforward, thanks to the universal coupling. A Lid Riser adds 23 cm in height (22 cm diameter). It fits sample holders that would otherwise clash with the lid, such as degassing cuvettes.
5. Cryostat
• Question: Which cryostat brand is offered? They need a gas-exchange, upright type.
• Answer: For liquid nitrogen, typically the Oxford instruments - Optistat DN. Other options for liquid helium are available.
• Note on the Optistat DN:
• It is a static exchange-gas, top-loading LN₂ cryostat.
• The sample is cooled by exchange gas (helium or nitrogen), not in vacuum.
• It has an outer vacuum chamber (OVC), but that vacuum is only for thermal insulation.
6. MCS measurement
• Question: MCS (multichannel scaling) measurement. Is it possible?
• Answer: Yes, no problem. It is possible within the parameters of the laser.
